CCW Dragon Boat Team
Paddles Up! Ready and Reach...In 1999, a small group of CCW members got the great idea to start a dragon boat team to compete in the Vancouver International Dragon Boat Festival. What started with a small idea has since flourished into a full team competing in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna, with its sights set on competing even further afield and in a higher category! Dragon boat racing is here to stay with the CCW. The women on the team list several reasons for keeping with it -- the team spirit is great, it is a good way to get in shape, and they have a lot of fun both on and off the water.
For those of you who don't know, a dragon boat is a long, teak or fibreglass boat that seats 20 paddlers, one steerer and one drummer. The races are 500 or 650 m long and there are several categories ranging from Junior to Competitive. Festivals are held all over the world with a fairly big one in Vancouver every year.
