June 232015 - Site Tour - Ponderosa Commons Phase II project at UBC

Built by Urban One Builders, this 300,000 sq. ft. multi-program building project is the second phase of Ponderosa commons. Designed by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg and HCMA Architecture + Design,  it includes 375 student residences with capacity for 553 students and approximately 80,000 sq. ft. of space for educational use including faculty offices, classrooms, event and common areas and retail space. The project includes a unique building envelope, composed of precast insulated concrete panels, prefabricated off site and installed one by one with a crane.

The phased completion of the project will see the first students moving in for the 2015 fall semester, and the remainder of the building will achieve occupancy by the end of the year.

May 26, 2015  - Site Tour - Marine Gateway project

This project is a transit orientated mixed use project involving residential, retail and office components.  The project is directly integrated with the Canada Line Station and designed to meet LEED Gold Standards. 

There are two residential towers 29 stories and 38 stories in height with 461 residential units, and a 19 story office tower. 

Three towers are built over a shared retail podium and parkade and feature a High Street gathering place.  Heating and cooling is provided by the Geothermal Fortis District Energy Center.

The Marine Gateway tour was a unique opportunity to see a large mixed use development at various stages - completed residential units, in progress office and retail space and the beginning of tenant improvement works. This tour promised to be one of our most varied and interesting to date!

January 27, 2015 - Speaker Event - Art of Negotiation, and How To Get Noticed by your CEO, Marion LaRue

Whether a woman on the tools, or a manager at the office, there is a strategy to career development and fast-tracking your journey. At the Best Western Plus Chateau Granville we heard the secrets of a woman at the top of her game.

Marion brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience gained over her 25 years of architectural experience, specializing in sports and recreation facility design. She is recognized for her ability to lead and manage large scale health care, sports and recreation projects as well as alternative delivery and P3 design teams.

Marion is known for her leadership and project management capabilities. Over the course of her career, Marion has provided leadership on over 30 higher-education and sports/recreation projects across North America. She was the Project Manager for the LEED Silver 400-metre Richmond Olympic Oval in the city of Richmond, which was designated as the official speed skating venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

She has served in the role of Operations Leader, Regional Leader and Women in Practice Leader over the years. Marion is passionate about sustainability and achieved one of the earliest LEED AP designations. She is dedicated to delivering high quality client service and has spoken at a number of conferences on sustainability and project delivery.

The construction industry is filled with lines which are meant to be crossed, and lines never meant to be crossed. In this challenging construction industry, we sometimes hold ourselves back behind those lines or allow others to hold us back. But are those lines of our own making?

In a world that tells us to 'Lean In' and 'Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office', there are also times that we need to look at the lines that we draw for ourselves.  There are some lines that need to be crossed.

Jamey McDonald of Better Lives Strategy-Oriented Coaching brought a discussion of "Crossing Lines"; considering the questions:

What Are The Lines? At What Price? Who Can Help Me?

Jamey's 35 years of experience leading growing organizations, has both shaped and qualified him to bring excellent guidance to individuals and organizations such as CCW.  His experience in leading a national not-for-profit organization for the past 10 years gives him an intuitive grasp on the difficult situations and lines that we draw for ourselves on the jobsite, and in life.

September 23, 2015 - Site Tour - Trump International Hotel & Tower Vancouver.

When completed in 2016, the twisting tower will stand at 616 feet (63 stories), transforming the city's skyline as the second tallest building. 

The original twisting design of the tower maximizes the window features and views in every suite. And because of this unique design, every suite is distinctive with no two views exactly alike. Attention to detail and Trump's signature service will further differentiate Trump Vancouver.

Situated on Georgia Street in Downtown Vancouver's Coal Harbour, the famed Arthur Erickson-designed tower will be a mixed-use development featuring residences and a luxury hotel.

The hotel will boast 147 guest rooms, a champagne lounge, signature restaurant, 6,000-sq-ft. Trump Spa, and 15,000-sq.ft. of meeting and event space. It will also be home to Vancouver's first pool bar nightclub.

Jun 26, 2014 - Site Tour - New Nordstrom's Retail Store

For one time only CCW was allowed to provide our members with 2 days of a tour. Thank you to Ledcor for being so gracious.

The shopping landscape is about to change in the City of Vancouver, as we eagerly anticipate the opening of the new Nordstrom’s Retail Store slated to open in the Fall of 2015. Every shopping enthusiast dreams of wardrobes and walk-in closets to match, and this is your chance to see the retail giant take shape. Come see a sneak peek of the new Nordstroms’s space and learn the details of this incredible retail construction site with CCW.

The project’s contractor, Ledcor, walked us through the plans and the vision for the project as they toured us through the space. Be one of the first to gain a sense of what the 3 leveled, 230,000 square-foot retail Mecca will look like as it nears completion.

Cadillac Fairview is the experienced commercial real estate and retail developer, committed to bringing this project through the LEED Green Building Rating System, and looking to achieve LEED certification.
